11 superb mobile apps that Dactyl mates enjoy

We develop apps, study them and of course, use them as well. Some of us more, others less - since with our work, it is also nice to have fun offline in our free time. In any case, we all use smartphones and we place slightly different demands on the quality and usability of their apps. So what do we have installed on our devices? Which apps spoke to us? Let's have a look at our list of 11 applications! 

1. Revolut

category: Finance
It calls itself a financial super application. And according to us, it truly is. It changes the way millions of people pay, save and invest each day. From better exchange rates up to selling stocks, crypto, and commodities. They are constantly pushing their services further and they are on a great way. We believe it is they who define the standard which inspires the developers in this area and which are then added to other applications. Their app is up to date and creative. The fact that it allows you to send a GIF along with the money is just the icing on a cake.

2. Wolt

category: Food and drinks 
We all know how it is sometimes when it comes to finding time for making a meal. Moreover, here in Brno, there are a lot of places where you can stuff yourself full of delicious food. That's why we often go out to eat or order a delivery. For us, Wolt is an app that beats any other of its kind. Its developers created an elaborate and well-designed app out of it. Nothing lags (not even animations), after ordering your meal it entertains you with a minigame and you can watch the status of your delivery in real-time. Besides, it is always on time. Thumbs up on our part!

3. Benzina 

category: Tools
When it comes to apps from various chains, they might seem boring at the first sight, however, after having a closer look, they bring better orientation, discounts, and every now and then even something more. Nowadays, even a gas station has come up with its app solution (and we recommend Shell). But what makes Benzina stand out? It is clearly arranged and above all functional. As occasional antisocials, we appreciate its mobile payments, where you just scan the QR code of the stand and you do not have to go anywhere. Its contactless features were additionally brought to the next level with their app MYCÍ Digi linka. Now you can go to a car wash without exiting your car. The app simply allows you to choose a program and pay. Pretty good, huh!

4. Kalorické tabulky

category: Health and fitness
Nutrition is to be taken seriously. We might sit behind screens, but we definitely do not want to be unhealthy. This app gives us a great overview and tells us whether we have eaten too much or too little. It has an enormous amount of food in its database, even the Slovak dishes, which our team particularly appreciates. Although the free version contains ads, it is no big deal and if it becomes bothersome, the paid one costs just a little. Nonetheless, at the beginning of June 2020, there was an update that suppressed some functions and slowed the app. We hope the developers will man up so that we could enjoy it fully again!

5. Strava

category: Health and fitness
This app is not about food, even if its name (in Czech) sounds like it. It is an agreeable assistant which our members use when running. We encourage ourselves and go for a run at least once a week so that we do not sit behind a computer all the time. Anyhow, it can be used for other sports too, for example when biking, swimming, yoga or working out. We enjoy its framework as well as the statistics and comparisons with previous runs. Sharing your activities with others is a good motivation and connection to a smartwatch is a sure thing. Although there are many similar apps, this one is quite nice even when using its free version.

6. 9gag

category: Entertainment
What would life be without fun? We have agreed that we truly love this legendary app. We use it to raise our spirits during a break or the daily routines. It contains a lot of funny gifs, pictures, memes, or viral videos. In addition, there is a community around it which makes everything even spicier. There are jokes for basically any occasion. And because sharing is caring, the fun is easily spread. If you haven't had a sincere laugh today yet, don't hesitate to install it.

7. Lockito

category: Tools
There are some apps that we use during our work too. Lockito is a tool for Android developers which becomes useful when testing applications based on geofencing or their usability in different places. It allows us to follow a fake itinerary and simulate a static position. It gives us full control over the speed, altitude, and GPS signal. The app is well-arranged, swift, and reliable, which is always a delight. We definitely recommend it for anyone who might find it useful!

8. Reflectly 

category: Health and fitness
We have already pointed out that we take care of our bodies. However, some of us Dactyl Mates dedicate space and time to their mental development too. Reflecty is a worldwide most recognized journal application. It is personalized and managed by an AI. It takes advantage of positive psychology, attentiveness, and cognitive behavioral therapy thanks to which it pleasantly guides its users and provides them with an overview of different life aspects. If you have been in a bad mood for the last couple of days, it can tell you why. It is recommended not only by us but also by various experts so it is definitely worth downloading.

9. Brew Timer 

category: Food and drinks 
Some of us would not survive without a cup of coffee. We like it in the mornings, afternoons, before and also after meals. We simply love coffee. However, buying it every day or making some kind of wish-was on our own is not our thing. This app helped us with the preparation of filtered coffee in the beginning. Besides a number of recipes (for example for AeroPress, Hario V60, Turkish coffee, French press, and others), it contains a handy timer for each step of the preparation. This way we know right away whether to pour the water slowly or very fast. If you would like to create a lovely cup of coffee yourself, it is much easier with this app.

10. Yousician 

category: Education
Our developer Siky is learning to play the ukulele. He stumbled upon this app which appealed to us all. It is a quick way to master not only the ukulele but also piano, guitar, or bass. The app is listening to you playing and provides you with immediate feedback about your accuracy and timing. It helps both beginners and professionals to improve - it follows your progress and motivates you to train through the notifications. It contains various missions, lessons, and exercises, which include not only notes, chords, strumming, etc., but also music theory. Playing a musical instrument becomes a real fun with this app.

11. VSCO

We use this app on all of our photos which we share on social media and it is a favorite editing app of many Dactyl mates. There are of course plenty of similar tools, but in our eyes, this one is unrivaled in both its usability and design. It enables relatively advanced editing of photos and videos, contains different presets, templates and inspiration. Even its free version is a very capable assistant which can enhance every visual presentation. If you haven't found your favorite editing platform yet, try this one.
